Although this album is Pavlov’s Dog‘s first album, it is also their best album. David Surkamp‘s impressive tone and vocals are a taste you cannot find anywhere else. Spanning a wide spectrum from Rush to Jethro Tull, almost every track of the album turns into a companion that you can personalize and keep in mind for a lifetime.
*Added 13 Years Later: Contrary to popular belief, Pavlov’s Dog, which is American, not British, originates from St.Louis, Missouri. Its origins lie in a local cover band called High On A Small Hill. The members, who came together to work on a progressive album under Surkamp’s leadership, realize that they have achieved good quality in this first album, in which Surkamp’s vocal technique stands out. Almost all of the songs written by Surkamp, Safron, Carver and Scorfina are different from each other and all of them can be considered hits in their own right.
Psychedelic and Blues influences mixed into Progressive manifest themselves in tracks that are sometimes melodic and sometimes rhythmic. The opening track, Julia, can be considered a small masterpiece in itself in terms of vocal technique and lyrics. However, when we take a quick look at the song list, we can say without hesitation that almost all the tracks have a similar feature.
